FREE Parenting Symposium

I found a new parenting website that is sponsored by Pepperidge Farms Goldfish called Fishful Thinking.

The Goldfish brand has believed in the power of a little smile for over forty years and is committed to promoting a healthy lifestyle to make a difference in children's lives. Goldfish crackers are made with real ingredients, without artificial preservatives and were the first major cracker brand to eliminate trans fat. Now Goldfish wants to play a part in helping children reach their full potential and become the successes they were born to be. The new Fishful Thinking program offers parents and teachers information about optimism and its importance in childhood development. Optimism is defined as the skill of seeing the positive aspects of a situation — the belief that things can change for the better and that one can control the direction of one's own life. Optimism is a teachable skill that all children can learn and benefit from regardless of their circumstances. The Goldfish brand is committed to spreading the optimism message to children through their parents and teachers to help them meet the challenges of growing up in today's world.

Goldfish created this website to connect parents and teachers with information about optimism and children. It includes downloadable articles, such as "Optimism: A Key Ingredient in Happiness," as well as easy-to-follow tips, fun activities and games that can be used every day including the "Happiness Scavenger Hunt," "Emotion Charades" and "Silver Lining Games." Many of the activities and games can be adapted to children's ages. The content on the Web site will be refreshed regularly with additional exercises, articles and relevant information for building and maintaining optimism in children.

Pregnancy and car accidents don't mix!

Do I have your attention now? No I was not in a car accident
“Motor vehicle crashes account for four of five deaths that occur among unborn babies of pregnant women who experience trauma.” The Journal of the American Medical Association

“Automobile crashes are the largest single cause of death for pregnant women and the leading cause of traumatic fetal injury mortality in the United States.”U.S. National Library of Medicine
When I was pregnant with Little Man there was no ticketing for not wearing your seat belt. So I would not wear the lap belt just the shoulder belt.

The nice people at Tummy Shield were nice enough to send me a Tummy Shield to review.

This product is wonderful! It makes me feel more safe when buckled up and I know Little Princess will not be injured from the seat belt if I were in a crash.
The Tummy Shield comes in two colors tan and grey which match most car interiors. For those of us who are short it is also nice because it adds a couple inches and you can see better over the steering wheel!

It is SO super easy to install took me less than five minutes!
The Tummy Shield is designed to to reduce the injury of an unborn child and the placenta in the event of an auto accident.

The inventor is an Australian engineer and father of four children. When his wife was in her 7th month of pregnancy. They were in a minor accident. Mom has minor lacerations on her stomach from the accident. They baby was born and at birth everything seemed normal. However after a while and the little girl seemed to not develop mentally and physically. They found she had brain damage. The doctor said it could have happened anytime during pregnancy. Once they told the doctors about the accident the neurologist said this could be a result from the accident. After years of testing and prototypes the Tummy Shield was created.

Tales of Tanya

So I have not noticed an increase in Subway commercials on TV or radio but obviously they are there much more than I see. Little Man has started singing the "five dollar footlong" song all over the house. It is quite amusing.
Now since he know his numbers by sight he also and given us some laughs in the last week. We were driving down the street by a Little Caesar's pizza and there was someone holding a sign that said something about $5 pizzas. Little Man from the back seat yells "Look mom five dollar footlong!"
Now I really don't think he even knows what a $5 footlong is. So I explained to him it was a sandwich that costs $5.
Later in the week we visited the Babies r' Us by the Tacoma Mall. There is a Circuit City going out of business over there and again there was someone on the side of the road wit a 50% off sign. Little Man from the back again yells "Look five dollar foot long!"
Now when I see the commercial on TV which I have only seen one time I let him know and he comes in and dances and sings to it.
I think I see a Subway commercial in the making!

Flip & Tumble!

Everyday I am reminded of going green and how our land fills are quickly filling up or full. Anticipating the arrival of our newest addition to the family makes me look at my "footprint" I leave behind. I would love to say I'm switching to cloth diapers, but honestly I can't do it.

However there are other ways we can help! Many cities on my state (Washington) have started imposing some pretty interesting rules or laws to force residents to go green. For instance, Seattle forces residents to recycle curb side or they get charged more for garbage pick up. Their newest GREEN law tells residents that they have to use reusable grocery bags or pay a $.10 per bag tax. So first let me comment I agree with this law to a point. Yes we should use reusable bags (if we can remember them) but the $.10 tax should go to the store who has to pay for the plastic or paper bag not the city government.

Okay so onto my point for the day. I have found a great product that will help me go green in everyday life and also doubles as a baby/toddler toy. What a great accessory for any diaper bag!

Flip and tumble bags go from a ball to a bag in seconds! Now I'm not saying you should let your child play with this or chew on it unsupervised because it is not intended to be a true child toy. But if you are grocery shopping and you child is starting to get antsy give them a Flip and tumble 24/7 bag and let them squish it or toss it! And when you get to the check out help them turn it into a bag and fill it with your purchased goodies.
Also when you have a little accident and never seem to have a bag around pull this handy dandy bag out of your diaper bag, which really takes up less space than your cell phone and place dirty contents in it. Bags are machine washable and hang dry!

So many of your may be asking what's different about this bag or why should I use it. Simple, I have TONS of reusable bags. Many of them reside in my car. But when it comes time to check out guess what I've left them in the car. This bag seriously can fit into your purse, diaper bag or pocket so should you choose to do so. I have a very tiny purse but it fits in mine just perfectly. It also doubles as something to keep Little Man out of trouble in the store. Some times I will even give him products to put in his bag. When we get to the checkout he empties the bag and then fills it back up and helps carry it into the store.
One lucky winner will win one 24/7 bag.
To enter comment on how you will use your 24/7 Flip and Tumble bag. Entries will be accepted through February 15, 2009 and I will pick the winner using Random.org. US readers are only eligible. Little Man is a STAR!

This weekend we went to the Playhouse Disney Live show in Seattle. We got really lucky when buying tickets and were able to get front row seats. At past shows the dancers would dance in front of the front row which we were looking forward to. This time they chose one boy and one girl our of the front row and let them dance on stage. This time it was LITTLE MAN!!!! At the end of intermission one of the dancers came and asked Little Man if he wanted to dance on stage. Of course he said yes. Once intermission was over he went up and they were to teach the crowd how to do the "Hot Dog Dance" from the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse show. At first Carson almost shed some tears when he did not exactly what to do. Then he looked at the guy next to him and away he went. Now I know there is no videotaping of the show but when your child is on stage you can't help it! Here is the video of our little superstar!
