Second Best Going Home Gift

So obviously the BEST going home gift from the hospital in March was our adorable, healthy, baby girl.

The SECOND best going home gift I got was the NEW 2-IN-1 SLEEPSACK SWADDLE from Halo. Now I am sure you are thinking of course she is saying this it was free. Well yes it was free from the hospital. I have seen and heard of Halo Sleepsacks for years now. But Halo has created something that has helped Little Princess sleep better and stay warmer!
The Sleepsack Swaddle allows infants to sleep more soundly by snugly wrapping their arms within, which prevents the startle reflex.
Even better yet the 2-in-1 Sleepsack Swaddle is intended to swaddle infants from the time they leave the hospital and also allows parents to remove the swaddle feature when no longer needed and use its Sleepsack wearable blanket alone, hence the 2-in-1!
The Sleepsack Swaddle replaces loose blankets for safer sleep and reduces the risk of re-breathing, which has been associated as possible cause of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).
Halo also donates a percentage of all purchases to First Candles/SIDA Alliance to support medical research, education and family services. The American Academy of Pediatrics (APA), along with First Candles/SIDS Alliance, using wearable blankets to reduce the risk of SIDS.
Now for the features:
  • Soft, Adjustable Fastener Strips. Adjusts to growing babies and keeps them comfortable all night long.
  • Micro-Fleece/100% Cotton. Material wicks moisture and breaths so there is less overheating. Fabric is durable through many washings.
  • Sack Design. Babies can't kick off covers so they stay warm and comfortable all night long. Generous fit makes it easy for baby to move and kick legs, which promotes healthy hip development.
  • Positioners on back. Allow positioning of Swaddle for "arms-in" or "arms-out" use. They also prevent Swaddle from being placed too high on the body near the baby's face.
  • Special Design. Prevents excess fabric from gathering near baby's face.
  • Inverted Zipper. Zips from top to bottom so it's harder for baby to unzip, and the zipper won't catch on baby's chin. Easy to change diaper without disrobing baby.
  • Flame-resistant. Tested to meet U.S. children's sleepwear flame-resistant standards.
So needless to say when I got home and figured out how wonderful these were I quickly asked a friend to stop by and buy me a couple more!
I then contacted Halo and told them how much I love this product. Halo was nice enough to send me one Sleepsack Swaddle to giveaway to one of my readers!

Week 8

We have officially made it through two months. It has been GREAT! Little Princess is wake all the time. She has her 8 week appointment this week so we will see how big she is. We will also be doing more pictures this week. Next week mommy goes back to work full time. We changed bottles and she hardly spits up or burps anymore. Once again she pooped on Daddy. She only poops like once a week and it seems to always be with Daddy, or on him! She is a VERY good baby. She only cries when she is hungry. Still hoping for more sleep soon.

Baby Food Friday

This Friday we are talking about Baby food, well particularly Breastfeeding!

I own a breast pump that probably cost in the mid $200 range. I am pretty unsatisfied with it! First I had to replace the face plate and now/still cannot turn it above medium suction. Kind of inconvenient!

So I was EXTREMELY happy to receive a NEW! Comfort Select Performance™ Dual Auto-Cycling Breast Pump from Mom Central!

Let me say I am very impressed with this pump for several reasons.

First off each horn has its own motor. So when you use batteries this means you can walk around and pump! Some of you may be saying why would I ever want to do that? Well it never fails I start pumping and Little Princess starts whaling! Because she knows mommy is making food!

Dual motors also allows you to control the suction on each breast! This means one can be at full suction and the other at half suction, or whatever works best for you.

This pump also only takes 6 batteries when using the portable function. The pump I currently own uses 10! I have found the battery time is very comparable, about 2 1/2 to 3 hours of pump time.

The last and BEST part I found about this pump is the price! This pump retails for around $70. That's right only $70! Which is a HUGE price difference to the over $200 you normally spend on a pump!

Here are some highlights for the new and improved NEW! Comfort Select Performance™ Dual Auto-Cycling Breast Pump:
  • Improved cycle time from 38 to 57cpm (60cpm is the accepted norm for a suckling baby)
  • Vacuum performance is consistently near the maximum of 250mmHG. Productive vacuum at all settings between min and max.
  • Regulated power adapter provides more consistent vacuum levels and cycle rate throughout range
  • Dual performance – 2 individual pumps for better production allowing individual settings and overall increased vacuum capacity
  • More stable bottle stand to prevent possible spillage
  • All components are BPA free and contain less than 0.01% phthalates
  • ISO Compliance and International symbols on pump allow retail in Canada
  • Upgraded corporate packaging that is WHO code compliant and more appealing to Mom
  • Aesthetics improvement – color schemes are more appealing (lavender)

Here are my only suggestions for the next version: A slightly larger bag, or at least side pockets to hold the bottles. The bottles will fit in the cooler portion of the bag, however if you have milk in bags in the cooler section there is no where to put the empty bottles for the next pumping session.

Now onto the even better part of this post! Mom Central and Evenflo have given me an additional NEW! Comfort Select Performance™ Dual Auto-Cycling Breast Pump and one box of Comfort Select® Disposable Nursing Pads with Lanolin and on box of Comfort Select® Disposable Nursing Pads to giveaway to one lucky reader!

Sound Sleep by Sound-Science

We have always been big believers in making sure our children can sleep when there is noise around. One of the ways we do that is playing music while our children sleep. We also live on a very busy road where sirens can go by at all times of the night and day.

Studies have also shown that lack of sleep can lead to ADD and hyperactivity in children.

Sound-Science had created a handful of CD and MP3's that aid in sleeping. For children and adults. We received a copy of the Sound Sleep for Babies. We play it every night. It is wonderful. It helps Little Princess fall asleep very quickly after middle of the night feedings and stay asleep until the next feeding. The Sound Sleep for Babies CD is an advanced womb simulation CD that reminds your baby of the peaceful, cozy, and SAFE chamber of the womb!

During the day we also play the Music is Math CD in the background. An ambient and scientific audio experience that delivers stimulating intellectual concepts to the early developing brain. It is a "Passive Learning System" that compliments the essential stimulation from parent or caregiver. Rather than functioning as a “babysitter” (like the popular DVD products do), the Music is Math Series CDs simply play in the background without interrupting the essential stimulus from parent or caregiver. Your baby can choose to absorb the information on his/her own time. Each CD is tailored for the specific age & stage of your baby’s development.

Sound-Science has also created a line for adults. Sound Sleep The Original, Sound Sleep for Parents and Sound Therapy. The SoundTherapy CD is unlike any other music CD or soundtrack in that it is manually constructed using a science called "Bio-Music".

What is "Bio-Music"?
99.9999% of all music we hear is composed and performed by people who play music: in other words, "musicians". That's a beautiful thing - as long as you want to be entertained by musicians. But what if you want to turn your brain OFF, and allow your inner peace to come through? This is when you want to be serenaded - not by musical performance - but by the random beauty of MOTHER NATURE!
Bio-Music is the musical modeling of the randomness of mother nature.

Earth Day

To help celebrate Earth Day here are ome great money- and energy-saving dish washing tips from
Get the dishes ready before you wash
Scraping or soaking dishes as soon as your meal is done makes cleaning them later on much easier. And when cleaning is easier, you don't have to change the dish water as often or work as hard.
Have a plan
Start with the least dirty dishes first, giving the more heavily soiled dishes more time to soak and clean. This also makes your dishwater last longer. Hooray!
Turn off the water
This seems like a no-brainer, but it's a great way to conserve water that people don't often follow. Instead of rinsing dishes one at a time under a running faucet, dip them in a dishpan of hot water or wait until you have a group to rinse.

Of course, using Palmolive® Pure + Clear™ liquid dish soap helps, too — it's concentrated so you can use less to clean a whole lot more. It's also a safe formula to use at home since it contains no unnecessary chemicals or heavy fragrances, and is made from biodegradable cleaning ingredients with non-irritating dyes.

Wanted 100,000 Places To Play

I won an Amozon Kindle THIS morning by joining this GREAT site and posting new parks!

KaBOOM!, a non-profit organization dedicated to finding and creating play spaces within walking distance for every child, has embarked on a nationwide mission to help communities build playspaces. This proves critical for those many children living in neighborhoods without playgrounds or playspaces, or unable to use existing ones because of rundown conditions or dangerous neighborhoods.

Innumerable times, the local playground became a haven for me when my little kids were bouncing off the walls at home. Fresh air and a safe, fun area where kids could let loose and release all of their boundless energy often proved a sanity saver! KaBOOM! believes that play has a purpose and unstructured play in particular helps make children happier, fitter, smarter, more socially adept and creative. So how can we help make this a reality for kids in less fortunate neighborhoods?

Mom Central has teamed up with KaBOOM! to help map online 100,000 playspaces in 100 days. Here's what counts as a playspace: a playground, field, a skate park, roller hockey rink, lake, dog park, community center, basketball court or ice rink - any place where kids can engage in unstructured play for free or a nominal fee. A playspace listing on KaBOOM! consists of an address or cross street and a description, one photo and one rating.

KaBOOM! has made creating this playspace listing easy: either a quick fill-in on their website or even easier - a twitpic from your cellphone.

For every play space entered into the KaBOOM! database on behalf of the Mom Central team, $1 will be donated to Jumpstart, a non-profit that brings at-risk preschool children and caring adults together to improve literacy. It's something to feel doubly good about!

Moreover, we all stand to benefit as all the playspaces with their photos and ratings will be available to us as we go on road trips this spring and summer, to visit relatives, or on vacation. You can go online and find cool places to take your kids to play- near Grandma's, the hotel, or off the highway to break up a long drive.

Join the Mom Central team today! Join Here! I have joined and started adding our local parks. Please help out!

Rocco Gets Real

Have you ever heard of Rocco DiSpirito? I had not heard a lot of about him but knew he was a chef. Here is a little background from his website:

"Rocco DiSpirito was born and raised in Jamaica, Queens. His culinary experience began at age eleven in his mother Nicolina's kitchen. By the age of 16, DiSpirito entered the prestigious Culinary Institute of America. He graduated in 1986 with honors and studied abroad at Jardin de Cygne in Paris, France with Dominique Cecillon. In 1990, DiSpirito earned a B.S. in Business from Boston University.

He worked at The Peninsula Hotel in NYC and at The Four Seasons Hotel in Boston. DiSpirito then joined Lespinasse's opening team at The St. Regis in New York City. In 1997, DiSpirito opened the 3 star Union Pacific in New York City's Gramercy Park as Chef and Owner. In 1999, DiSpirito was named Food & Wine's Best New Chef, and in 2000, Gourmet magazine called him "America's Most Exciting Young Chef."
DiSpirito opened Rocco's 22nd Street in the summer of 2003 while cameras for NBC's The Restaurant watched and took notes. Later that summer, more than nine million viewers a week tuned in to see the ups and downs of DiSpirito's family-inspired eatery. The second series aired in the spring of 2004. DiSpirito is the author of 5 cook books including Flavor, Rocco's Italian American, Rocco's Real Life Recipes and DiSpirito's fifth book Rocco Gets Real: Cook At Home Everyday was published October 2008. A unique cookbook that empowers the everyday home cook with easy to make recipes, step by step photos and illustrations, making his unique approach to food accessible to just about anyone. Rocco's new show Rocco Gets Real airs on Saturdays on A&E at 10:30 AM"

I recently purchased Rocco Gets Real: Cook At Home Everyday. What a GREAT cookbook! My husband even loves the recipes.

The recipes are VERY simple. There is a cooking "equipment" or tools needed and even pictures of the items. Each recipe comes with a shopping list and also an approximate time it takes to make the recipe. So far I have not found one that takes over 30 minutes! And better yet the ingredients and the tools needed are normal everyday items. This is great for a mom who returns to work next week!

I can't wait to try more of his meals!

Pillsbury 44th Annual Bake Off

At the 43rd Pillsbury Bake-Off Contest in 2008, Carolyn Gurtz walked away with the million-dollar grand prize for her Double-Delight Peanut Butter Cookies! This wife, mother and grandmother with a passion for baking was introduced to cooking at age seven and she hasn't stopped since then. One contest judge stated that Carolyn's recipe was "a new twist on an old classic." Other judges called out its simplicity and approachability and described it as a delightful taste that combines two classic cookies - a snickerdoodle and a peanut butter cookie.

Anna Ginsberg, a stay-at-home mom who you might know from her blog, Cookie Madness, earned the $1 million prize for her Baked Chicken and Spinach Stuffing in the 42nd Pillsbury Bake-Off Contest. At the 2004 competition, the 41st Contest, former librarian wrote her own page in history by capturing the top prize with her Oats 'n Honey Granola Pie recipe. Inspired by pecan pie, Conrad adapted a family-favorite pie and caught the judges' attention with its wonderful flavor and simple preparation.

All it takes is one easy and delicious recipe idea, so we hope you let your readers, friends and family know that it's time to get creative in the kitchen for their chance at a million! One hundred finalists will win a trip to the finals, April 11 - 13, 2010, at the Waldorf-Astoria Orlando and Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek hotel in Florida. Pillsbury is looking for original recipes that taste and look delicious, are easy to prepare and that families across America will love to eat. There are four recipe categories - Breakfast & Brunches, Entertaining Appetizers, Dinner Made Easy and Sweet Treats.

Entries are being accepted online between now and April 20th, 2009, at You'll also find contest details, including eligible products, prizes and the official rules, at the web site.

Cloth diapers make the BEST burp rags!

And having a very "urpy" baby I know! And what is even better is a CUTE cloth diaper! Jannuzzi Clothing out of Orange County, California makes some WONDERFUL and SUPER CUTE items. One of which they sent me to review. Their Burp Trio - Cherries (I LOVE Cherries!). These Burp Cloths are 100% cotton which makes them super instantly absorbent when Little Princess spits up. This is nice instead of having it run all the way down the front of my shirt! These burp rags get softer and softer every time I wash them it is amazing!

The cherry appliques are made with super soft minky fabric and does not bleed the colors when washed, another good point! They can also be bleached without fading.

Jannuzzi also has great personalized children's clothing. Charlie Sheen of Two and a Half Men recently showed off his Jannuzzi onsies, blanket, and burp cloths for his twins Max and Bob on Entertainment Tonight! Check out the photos and video at

What else can I say these are wonderful burp cloths and make our abundance of spitting up MUCH easier on the laundry load! Thanks Jannuzzi for creating such a useful and cute tool for moms and babies!

Check out Jannuzzi Clothing today!

BabyPlus delivers rhythmic sounds that resemble mommy's heartbeat. They recommend you don't start using it until 18 weeks gestation. That is when your baby is almost completely done producing all of its brain cells!

Babies are born more alert and relaxed.
Babies self sooth much more easily.
Babies nurse better.
Babies reach milestones earlier in life.
Later in life are more school ready.
