We have a Nanny? - Giveaway

With summer approaching we have been faced with the realization of again how much child care costs! Since Little Man has been in school we have not had to worry about child care for him. We are also very blessed to live right across the street from my aunt and uncle and their two teenage children who help with before and after school care with him.

So there it was. Again we were faced with trying to find affordable child care, in the same location, for a toddler and a school age child. We were also trying to do this without going bankrupt.

According to data from the National Association of Child Care Resource & Referral Agencies (NACCRRA), an average of $8,150 per year ($679 a month), daycare costs for babies and toddlers in the United States range from $4,388 to $14,647 a year ($366 to $1,221 monthly). Now this is only for One child not the TWO we have.

So I went on the hunt. Starting with my local Child Care Resource and Referral agency which provides a list of all the licensed care centers in your area. The problem I was having was no one was able to take a school aged child and a toddler for a decent price and in the same school district.

I turned to Candi Wingate, President of Nannies4hire.com, a mother herself. Candi graciously granted me one month access to her two sites, http://www.nannies4hire.com/ and http://www.care4hire.com/.

I have found both of these sites equally useful for different reasons.

Nannies4hire.com allowed us to research, interview, and hire a nanny at a price that was in our range, in our school district, and even better yet, in our home. Surprisingly this did not blow our child care budget (my husband was VERY skeptical!).

First we filled out our family information and information about our position. Then we waited for nannies to contact us. Then I got antsy and started to contact them based on my “NannyMatch settings.” We received a great response. Initially I told them the hours and pay and a little about our family. From there I looked them up on Facebook. Yes moms one of our greatest research tools is Facebook! Next we set up an initial interview at the local Starbucks. Then we invited them to our home to meet our children.

And that was it! Our nanny, Michelle starts on July 1st! I am VERY excited!

A free preview of available nannies is available to families. Whether you are looking for full-time, part-time, temporary, summer, live-in or live-out nannies or elderly/companion care there are a variety of experience levels available. Once you are a registered member, you will have access to contact information and advanced search features. Helpful tools are available to registered families and nannies, including sample interview questions, a sample reference form and a sample contract.

Besides relationships with Dr. Phil, Supernanny and the Discovery Channel/TLC to name a few they have also teamed up with corporations to help find childcare for their employees. Thousands of families and nannies throughout the United States and Canada have joined Nannies4hire.com and their list continues to grow daily.

Care4hire.com takes a different approach to child care AND other care you may need! Care4hire.com offers searches for babysitters, house cleaners, tutors, elder care, pet sitters, and misc. care. This site is GREAT to have a date night out! And I found it especially useful for elder care. My grandmother cares for my grandfather and often needs help but can’t get state assistance. She did not know where to turn to? Care4hire.com is a great resource for her!
